Scything our hearts out
Each year when the summer starts to wane. We get excited because scything season is about to begin!
We cut meadows of all sizes from small garden mini-meadows to large fields that some would scoff at.
We love scything despite the blisters. I connects us to the land and it keeps us strong and fit. It's the most cardio-vascular workout we get in our work, so we relish it (after lunch it's an up-hill battle though)
Getting in the swing of it (our scything song) by Tom and Max
Chorus: Getting in the swing of it
(Time your scythe swipe with the word swing)
Wake up in the morning, fee-ling alive,
Its a gurt day so I think Im going to scythe,
Oh when im in the field and the birds are in the sky,
I know I'll be doing this till the die that I die.
Peen and sharpen, make it nice and mean,
If it makes a nice sound, itll cut clean,
Looking out over a field of grass,
Watching it tremble as we pass.
Cutting Cockle makes me chuckle,
I beg of you don't show me fescue!
Raw and sore except the knuckle,
Half an hour and I'm for rescue.
Blisters on my fingers. I got stones in my bones!
The grass is all around me, and I'm a long way from home.
My super hands have turned to stumps
I'm stuck down in the Cornish dumps,
My top and arms are feeling heavy
Time is it to get a bevvy?
If you have a meadow you'd like cut the traditional way. The ultimate way. The most ecologically-sensitive way with the lowest disturbance and the lowest carbon-footprint. We'd love to help.
